Default Lehigh 40 Caliber Prototype

Tom sent these 40 caliber prototype bullet for us to look at. They are 0.400", and weigh 200 grain. They were shot into the stack of carpet, plywood, water jugs, and phone books on the back of the horse. Powder charge was 50 grain Blackhorn; the trap was out 25 yard.

About the only visible difference between the unfired bullet on the left, and the fired bullet on the right, is the ring around the nose, put there by the ramrod, when the bullet was loaded.

The bullet penetrated every jug (all six), and was stopped by the phone books. The last jug had an exit hole; the bullet dented the phone book, and fell back into the last jug
