I am goin on my first elk hunting trip this fall and was hoping to get some info on unit 53. We are planning on going the last week of bow season. Any info would be greatly apprieciated.

Hmmm....let me see where that unit is at but picking the last week should put you in the heart of the bugle season. Usually the third week is the best but you also have to compete with the muzzleloader huys which is not fun. I know the gunnison basin has a lot of elk. Do your research and talk with the DOW to see where you might start. You will probably find most of your animals up in the high country during that time. Good luck.
