It might happen in the same general area because thats where they winter but thats the only reason

I think that elk tend to winter in the same areas year after year so there certainly is a possibility they could drop in the same place.

Having said that because the snow may be deeper from year to year or the weather warmer from year to year they will don't necessarily drop in the same place.

In short they travel the same basic routes (if left undisturbed by human activity) so the possibility is there but I don't think they actually do drop in the same spot enough to mark your GPS and return year after year to collect your bounty. You're still going to have to check several square miles within a given area to find the sheds.

Just my 2 pennies.

Elk migrate to the same winter range for winter every year. Provided everything is equal from year to year (and it never is) elk should be found in the same general area every year. We do our shed hunting in the same areas every spring. Some years are better than others.

A lot of it depends on snow where I live and hunt elk. They do migrate to certain areas, but it depends on the snow on where they will be when they drop. I have also seen where sheds from a bull are dropped in one winter area and ends up being killed in a whole other unit 20-30 miles away. Elk go where thay want to go !
