Default Elk Ivories

Anyone have any good ideas on how to make a nice necklace out of my ivory without going through a jeweler. I dont want gold or anything, just something decent so I can always have it with me. Any suggestions would be great.

I have a buddy who used a piece of leather string and drilled a small hole in the ivory, ran the string through, and had himself a nice piece of homemade jewlery. I have seen ones made with braided hemp twine also that looked nice. I am sure they make mounts that you can glue or clamp the ivory into also to make pendants for gold and silver chain neckalces.

You might try one of the online findings stores like tripps.com and mount your own.

Hi there,

Dealing with retail Jewelers in big stores can be a pain. My father might be able to help you out though. He is a custom jeweler and repairman. He can also help you without using metal. However, there is always silver. You might check out his website. Sorry, that it is a work in progress still, but it has great ideas. You can write to my mom or call her, for any questions. The website is www.garittys.com.

Hope that helps with some ideas.
Have a Merry Christmas!!!

Make it yourself with wooden beads and leather lace. It will look very nice.

Best of luck, and post some pictures, please!

I make necklaces out of hemp and reinforce it with a cable running through the center and some awesome precious metal plated beads.
