Default DIY elk and mule deer

I'm a die hard bowhunter looking for good over the counter DIY units. I have been applying for premium elk and mule deer tags for two years so it will be a couple of years before I start drawing them. I'm looking for good hunting in the mean time.

Check out the westrn states Fish and game web sites. There is good hunting to be had in most western states. Also subscribe to Eastman's Bowhunting Journal. By far the Authority in Western big game information.

Research, Research, and then do more research. I'm assuming your talking about Colorado because I believe CO. is the only state that does OTC elk. The DOW has PLENTY of information on their website, you just need to pour through it and then make an educated decision. Statistics are a good thing. If you are talking about CO. there are no OTC deer tags.

It works doing that. We decided 1 1/2 weeks before 2nd rifle season that we were going to hunt the last half of the season. I spent plenty of hours researching info from their site, and maps. Made a decision on a unit and got into elk. Got my first bull. We had never been in that area before, much less scouted it. I do credit my kill to God, altimately he put me in the right place at the right time.

Are you talking about CO. and from out of state?
