Default Face Paint Or Face Mask?

What do you use when bowhunting elk and why?

As a bowhunter of elk I don't use anything at all on my face, don't move & no worries, elk will look right past you even at under 10yds. I do wear camo clothing but rarely wear gloves or face coverings, it just don't matter that much, movement spooks elk camo or no camo. Some may feel more confident when wearing some sort of camo, to them, I say do it, use what gives you great confidence, but don't rely on it to make you invisible! Elk have keen senses when you're in close!

I use a mask, because I would hate to paint my face.

Never hunted elk but hunted deer with the bow for 25 years. I go with the face paint. I had the string of my bow catch on the string and screw up the shot once. Never again. Gun, sure I'll go with the mask because it's a pain getting that paint off.
