Take a kid hunting!

I know this subject has been discused in great detail but I would like to put in my 2 cents worth.

Where I live ,in central WV we are a pretty close knit bunch of hunters.
One way we do things together is to take each others kids hunting and fishing.
When a friend or fellow hunter cannot take their child, for what ever reason be it work sickness etc. we call upon each other and make sure that kids get to go when they want to.

We all teach strict hunters safety, strong hunting ethics, sportmsnship and try to give that kid the first shot etc.
We teach and treat each others kids as if they were our own when afield and can feel safe and secure when they are in each others hands.

There are now 2nd and 3rd generations with kids of their own that are following this practice.

We make sure that all hunting regulations are adheared to,and instill sportmanship, honesty and fellowship when we hunt or fish.
At the end of the hunting season the famlies all get together and have a wild game banquet, we give the kids prizes for various acts of sportsmanship, accomplishments etc. and make sure that every child feels that they are special.
We post the pictures of hunts and fishing and have drawings for door prizes.

The parents also get to know each others famlies better and apperciate the sport of hunting and fishing.

I believe that this type of thing is possible with any group of hunters and friends.
I encourage all of you to think about doing this, it would be priceless to the kids and the adults should and will feel
like they have contribuated something that will last a lifetime.

Good hunting: Fairchase Larry

You should be commended for taking the initiative on such a project. I hope every experienced hunter takes the opportunity and time to introduce someone to the outdoor sports, including hunting.
