.270 or 30-06?

I am 14 from Texas and I want a gun that I can keep for a long time. My friends don't know any thing about hunting so I want your opinion. I'm 5'4, and about 110 lbs if you're curious about how big I am. I want a .270 or a 30-06, I have looked into the goods and bads of both calibers. So I want your opinion.

I would deffinately choose the .270. I am also 14, 6'0" 165 lbs. But that has nothing to do with any it is the terrain you are shooting... I'm in northern Michigan hunting large fields and open areas. Although it is my first deer rifle so I guess I would tend to choose it!! - Buckhunter14

I would definitely say the .30-06, both in merit and matter of opinion. With the right ammo and shot placement it can be the most versatile rifle you could own, able to take all big game in Texas, exotics included. I do, however, believe you could handle either calibre, but the .30-06 seems more conducive and practical. That said, I too am biased, it's what I use on big game in North America. I'll just say that you would not be making a mistake in opting for the .30-06 - if you get a full, not youth, model, you will be able to use it on any hunts you go on in the future (with the exceptions of elephant, cape buff, leopard, and some other rough-n-tough game).

Best of luck,

Kimberly

it depends on what you are hunting. personally i like bigger cal like the 30-06 but a 270 can kill alot of things.if you are hunting deer i would go with the 270 so you dont destroy the deer.

Get a 30-06 because you have a bigger bullet diameter than a .270
I'm not saying a .270 is a bad caliber my dad hunts elk with a .270
The caliber is all your choose.

i have both and use both for different reasons. the 270 is a nice flat shooting round and has good knockdown power. but if your hunting around brush or anything the 30.06 is a better choice. it also depends on what bullet you choose as far as destruction to the animal. ballistic tips tear huge holes in either caliber for instance. but if your hunting primarily fields id say go with the 270 or a 25.06

7mm is a really good gun. All of my family including aunts and uncles and my grandpa shoot the 7mm. Alot of my dads friends do to. I suggest the 7mm. It is a really good all around big game gun

7 mags are nice but the bullet drops too fast and they blow holes the size of hubcaps in deer. but its the only thing i take bear hunting.

i have a 270 and i would not use anyother caliber. I have never had any problems with it and i have shot 30-06s hunting before and didnt really like it that much but there was really no reason why i didnt like it is just didnt. but yea for deer where i live it is the best caliber you can get in my opinion. you should look into the 270wsm that is supposed to be flatter and more power ful i believe than a normal 270 win
