RE: Your First Hunt?
Over three years ago.
It was horrible, it was cold too. I was on public land that had as many hunters as trees. It was like the woods turned orange. I didn't get anything, but it beat being in school.....but I think I had off school anyway[8D] |

RE: Your First Hunt?
Boy these guys are vague huh amy?=) Well my first hunt was with my uncle in Winchester Kentucky, i can remember there was creek that was so clean you could drink from it. I had spent the night over my uncles house in his condo and slept on the couch, as soon as i went to sleep it was time for me to wake up! I can recall a long drive about two hours long. My uncle had a bucket full of deer hunting things that i had to carry and boy was it heavy!! It was actually his seat as well. We had drove down a long gravel drive to where some other vehicles had been parked like they had spent the night there. My uncle got his 30/30 out of his truck and i grabbed the bucket and we had to climb a long grassy hill all the way to the top of the hill then into the woods. When we arrived in a spot i reckon he hunted before we sat down and there was some snow on the ground i can recall. A nice buck had come straight at us and stuck his head around a tree to look at us...................then BANG. My uncle let one at em. We had found blood in the snow but we was unable to find that buck, i thought it was coolest thing. Been hunting with him ever since. We have shared some great hunts together of all types of game. He is getting older now and cant remember as much.................but i do. I can remember when we couldnt hunt together due to work or whatever, i would hunt the day before and i would leave him a lil note in the deer stand i just new he would be hunting in, saying have a good hunt and good luck, things like that. Sometimes we thought so much alike when it came to hunting we would end up in the same spot or we would find each others gloves or lost arrows, or even a bag of pretzels that fell out of our bag one time.........so he ate them![8D] I hope it never ends.

RE: Your First Hunt?
ill elaborate on teh first deer i shot...it was a few years ago in Sussex NJ on state land..it was pouring all morning i sat about 250 yards away from my dad and we sat until probably about 9 30...we saw nothing heard a few shots in the distance but nothing close...we took a break for a few hours went to a laundramat and dried all of our clothes had lunch and decided to go back out for the afternoon...it was about 12 by the time we got back out ..we were driving down a dirt road when i spotted 2 deer in a field prob about 35 yards away from the road...my father pulled over next to abnother truck that was parked there...two guys hopped out of the car not knowing the deer were standing there and scared them into a thicket ...they had been sleeping in the car all morning because of the rain and decided to come out just as we had pulled up...so we continued up the road about 400 yards ...we got our gear and my father went on one side of the road and i went on the other...jus as we left the car i heard a shot from those two guys down below us..i figured that they had taken one of the deer we had just seen...in spite of all the rain there was probably about a 1/2 of snow on the ground and when i walked into the woods about 250 yards i noticed fresh deer tracks with the mud just kicked up on top from where they had ran through a creek bed...then i noticed a very small blood trail next to one set...i saw no human tracks along it and i decided to follow...i flollowed for prob 100 yards when i spotted teh deer about 40 yards away..took a shot hit it and it kept running....it ran across the street and into the woods a good ways...i went and got my dad and we tracked it for over a mile and half when he finally said we cant keep going if we do find it it will take us hours to get it out...i talke dhim into me walking about another 200 yards and sure enough i jumped it...took one shoty and dropped it right there then it tried to get back up and i wacked it again...was a looooong drag out to that road but it was my first deer and i will never forget it...

I think i was about 3 when i first went with my dad on a duck hunting trip. Both him and my mom took me and my sister hunting with them when we are both very young. Come to think of it, i was either 3 or 4 when i first went. I remember getting my first dove when i was about 5 (with help of my dad holding shotgun for me)

RE: Your First Hunt?
I did not start to hunt until I was 16 and I hunted with my uncle for a year before going on a stand by my self. My first stand was on a field and my uncle put out little sticks in the ground to give me a range to tell how far I could shoot. I remember that we saw a few does and I did not shoot. I was the best hearing the doga run and seeing the deer. I did not kill anything that day but on that stand this year 17 years later I killed a fairly nice 9 pointer and I did not think of it until now. That is neat!!

RE: Your First Hunt?
Im from Maine and my first hunt was after a whitetail buck. I had been walking for a good mile or,so when all the sudden I heard crashing down through the woods. My dad gave me a motion to stop so i did. I raised my 44 mag rifle and waited for the 7 point 135 pound buck to show his face. about this time i had major buck fever. He stopped about 20 yards away. I found him in my scope and let him have it. and before i knew it his rack was on my trophy wall. Thats what i have to say about my first hunt.

RE: Your First Hunt?
last season was the first time i could hunt by myself. we were already there for 3 days. noone in our "group" got anything. it was the day before we were gonna go home and we decided do go hunt behind my g-mas(she has 18 acres). and i was walking to a spot where i was gonna sit and my uncle and bro weregonna walk through some pines and see if they can jump something and maybe it come my way. well they never knew they jumped a doe but they did. and right before it got to me all i heard was a whole bunch of leaves gettin rustled up. and i thought to myself "OH ****" because i thought it might be a bear. i mean this thing was makin a whole bunch of noise running through the woods. and i was kinda like on the other side of a small hill so i couldnt see anything coming. but then all of the sudden this huge doe comes running up about 10 yards away and just stops dead in its tracks(this thing looked like it was ginormous) i have a lever action with a cross bolt safety and i was trying to get that off then i finally did pulled the hammer back and bang. the doe took off running towards this really swampy pond area. then i couldnt see her anymore. i got on the walky talky and said i jus shot a doe and of course it took about 5 minutes for me to say that because of all the adrenalin. but then my uncle and bro helped me find it and it was in about 10 feet into the swampyness. we dragged it out and then brought our truck back into the woods and hauled it out of the woods with the truck.
and that was my first deer hunt. |

RE: Your First Hunt?
My first hunt was turkey, about 8 years ago. My dad belongs to a club and we were hunting on their land at the time. We were trying to pull into a small parking area near the woods but we couldn't because there were about a dozen turkeys in the way!! My dad puts the truck in park as fast as he could, jumps out and tries to scatter the turkeys back into the woods! A couple seconds later he comes back out and says to put your gear on and lets go find a spot. I did as I was told toand we started walking in. Not too far into the woods I start to hear things so we stop and find a spot. We sit for maybe 10 minutes tops and I was starting to hear more and more. I told my dad as quietly as I could and he said he didn't hear a thing but I was sure I did. I had to point in the direction that I heard it....it was coming from in front and behind us. My dad tries to turn slowlyso he could see behind us. We wait a couple more minutes and then my dad sees a turkey in site!! Quietly...he tries to tell me not to move at all and I understood. BANG! He shot the turkey...I turn to look and all I see is that my dad is running up the hill after it! When he catches it he turns around and looks at me. The first words out of my mouth were 'You can sure run up a hill fast dad!!' I was very happy and excited and couldn't put it into words then! When we get back to the truck I look at it for a while because at the time I've never seen a turkey up close before. We get back to the house and take lots of pictures to remember the day. It made good food for the next meal!! Sorry but I don't specificallyremember what type of gun it was because I was only 7~

RE: Your First Hunt?
Well,I got my first bow for my 13th birthday. I started going out with it and trying to kill ground squirrels and quail (to no avail) within the first month. But my first real hunting trip was with my great uncle in PA. He had an archerydoe tag and we went out into the woods to fill it. We saw one at about 50 yards, then worked our way in close. It ran off like a bat out of hell, so we sort of gave chase (only in slow motion) and eventually found the deer again. This time there was more cover available and we got within about 20 yards. Then to my suprise he told me to take the shot! My gheart almost exploded in my chest as I drew that bow. Then I suprised even myself when I loosed the arrow. Thwack! Right behind the shoulder. The deer bolted into the woods. We waited about ten minutes, then tracked it about 300 yards to a small gulley that it got stuck in. It was laying there on the forest floor, with the arrow still lodged through its lungs. I felt kind of bad, it was such a beautiful creature. Though I realized that I was helping to fill a tag that the DNR deemed neccesary in that region. Now, I only hunt small game. I live in southern California, and I don't see the point in killing one of the twelve deer we have here, lol. Plus we drove out all our predators, leaving an ample supply of small game to fill the freezer with. So now I just watch the deer walk by asI shoot my rabbits. My idea ofthe natural balance.

RE: Your First Hunt?
My 1st real deer hunt by myself deer hunt was 2003 for Thanksgiving weekend. It was the 1st day of the hunt and I didn;t go for the morning round and didn't expect to go out for the evening round. When my dad started suiting up and said...."What are you doing!?!?! Do you want to be a hunter or what!?!?" I was so excited that I put my Mossy Oak bib on backwards! I fixed it and was ready to go. I had to have had at least 5 layers of clothing on. I was excited until we got into the truck and left for the 9 mile voytage to the stand. About 1/2 mile in, I started to $h*t bricks! I was shacking and nervous and what not. Then, I got exceptionally more nervous when my dad hands me the .270 Win and says "This is the safety. This is on and this is off.. I trust you know what to do with it. Now, walk 120 yards down this trail, climb the stand, sit down, and shut up. If something comes out...shoot the hell out of it!" I obeyed but to no evail. All I saw was a pheasant, a bunch of squirrels, and a bird that almost hit me while I was in my stand....trusty camo!
