What caliber should I get if I am elk, bear, and whitetail hunting. I'm 12 and I want to
know what caliber to get to hunt those animals.

If you're talking Black bear, elk, and whitetail, I'd say a .30-06.

30-06 is a great all around gun . I have dropped deer hard . Even seen elk , and bear drop with that caliber . I dont think a 12 year old could handle a 30-06 . Just ask your dad and he'll help you get find perfect fit gun for you . Good luck

A thirty caliber cartridge would be good. A 30-06,300wsm,300win,300wby.Heck.......you could even take a 280 ,but it would be better to take one of the 30cals I listed.I think many people make the mistake of giving young people light compact rifles. If the person is really too small to use a standard sized rifle ,then fine,go for it.After all,fit is important. But just remember that the lighter the rifle, the more kick.A 5lb 30-06 kicks much more than a 8lb 30-06 with the exact same load.

my fav gun would have to be the 30-06 packs a punch but little kick a 12 year old could handle that. my brother is 10 and he shoots it all the time.

id get a .270 in bolt (savage model 110)or pump, with a 2-7x. it is a great gun and have seen it kill all three animals. or there is the .308 or the 30-.06.

.270 or .30-06. i was shooting a .270 when i was 11. was shooting a 12 gauge when i was 12. sure it kicks, but you dont notice that in the field. man up.

RE: What Caliber

Survey says... .30-06! :D

But yes, I agree completely. The .30-06 is an all-around calibre that, with correct shot placement-can take nearly all North American big game. I love mine.

Many youth shoot a .30-06 with no problem, but the danger lies in the fact that you may trigger (pardon the pun) an involuntary flinching in anticipation of the kick.

You may want to consider a recoil reducer if you opt for a caliber like the .30-06.

Good luck!

I started shooting a 7mm when I was 11 and the kick diddnt bother me. I really really like the 7mm. It is a good all around big game rifle. I would suggest the 7mag. But if you want to go with something that has less of a kick go with the 270. That is a good caliber to for big game to.

You might want to go to the guns forum and put a thread there.
