I would use a 22 or a shotgun with shot 8 or 9.

I used to go after rabbits on the time with my .22 and the meat is pretty good, taste like chicken. I been trying to go after the critters with my bow and that is hard. Once i get some more arrows though, i am going back out and keep on trying :D

I absolutely love the taste of rabbit! I would use a 20 gauge with 7 or 8 # shells.

Ive never got one with any rimfire, everytime I take one out i never even get a shot. Those darn buggers run to fast. Id take a 12 gauge anyday and go walking around the brush busting them out.

Shot one with the .22 mag one time, low light, I saw it run across the ground and could have sworn it was a squirrel. Noticed it was a rabbit, shot at it, thought I missed because it ran about 10 more yards, then it stopped. When I walked over to kick it up again, found it with reflexes in high gear. Yep, got it right behind the ears, and he was a pretty big rabbit too! GOOOOOOOOOOOD eatin I might add.

Rabbit hunting's great fun!!! I hunt 'em with my semi-.22 most of the time, but if I know they're really giddy in one place that I hunt, I haul out the 20 GA pump, load it up with 3" mag. buffered #4s and bust 'em. I'm not one to take long shots, but I took a pot shot at a crow when it was 52 yards out, STONE DEAD. Then dialed in on a rabbit @58 yards, STONE DEAD. This was with a mod. choke. If I know that the rabbit is over 55 yards out I won't shoot anymore, but I was amazed!!!! My 870 LOVES the 3" #4 Nitro mag. loads!!

i would not use a 22 or any shot that isnt a bb spread. i like to use a 20 because it is easier to walk around with than a 12. but i would rather have a 20 with #4 shots or something close to it that a 22. you have a better chance of getting it with the spread.

I have never went hunting just for cottontails but i have shot one or two hunting other things like ducks and i also shot one with my 270. and i hunt jack rabbits all the time. I hunt the big ones me and my friends have competitions i guess they would be called to see who can shoot the most. There is a lot of jacks rabbits by my friends farm. Not to many by me but i did shoot 2 like 1/2 mile away both within 5 min of eachother when duck hunting.

MmMmM.... rabbit... i hunt them mainly with my bow... thats what i hunt everything with... when my arms aren't feeling the greatest after my surgeries i usually go out with a .22 though... that seems to do the job pretty well... the meat is great... a little tough but it gets most tender in a nice stew

I've got a beaglepup that is about 7 months old. I have put her on scent a few times already and she will run a rabbit. I am still training it though. I am fixin to go run it right now. I use the model 1300 12 guage. I think Doe will become a good dog. She has an awesome nose. Sometimes, when I am not hunting over a dog, I will take tha 22 but I really prefer the scatter stick. BB
