Youth Shotgun Recommendations??
 

Anybody have any recommendations for a youth shotgun? It will be for my 8 year old son who weighs about 55lbs. I have checked out a few but the only one so far that is light enough for him to hold is the Rossi Single Shot .410-22 combo. Does anyone have feedback on Rossi? Just looking for something to get him started on.

The rossi should be a fine gun. I personally would not look for a combo.... Also, if you can find used shotguns in your area an older stevens single shot would be a good idea for him. If you want to buy new and this is in your price range, go with this. NEF makes a good gun.

Mossberg 500 super bantam 20.

My first gun was a youth single shot Rossi .410 not a combo though. I first shot it when I was 6 years old. I still enjoy takeing it to shoot trap. You can really turn some heads. But that little 410 may be small but I've shot Turkey's with it squirrel rabbit and even deer. It's a great gun. And I almost guarantee your son will love it.. I plan on passing mine to my kids someday. And have them pass it to there's. But last time I checked 410 ammunition isn't to cheap so if he could do the recoil of a 20 that was light enough I'd probably do that. My second gun was a Rossi 243 20 gauge combo. I personally am not a fan of the combos but it was also a great gun. Not sure if you would want the 243 because the combo your looking at was the 22 combo. Well. I hope I helped some. rossi is a very good company you should have no problems

ive shot several deer with my rossi 20 gauge single shot very good gun and recomend it

Mine was and still is a remington 870 mag nwtf special edition in 20 guage and I plan on never getting rid of it. They don't make the nwtf anymore but the 870 or 1100 or the 1187 especially in 20 guage doesn't kick to hard. Especially the semi auto 11-87 and 1100. all are great and have that great remington quality. The us military still uses the 870. That should tell you something on quality

i think that a 28 gauge or 20 gauge would be good

I wouldn't recommend single shot 20 gauge unless they have a good stance, back when I was a chubby little 10 year old a NEF topper 20 gauge knocked the S**T out of me when i was turkey hunting.

rossi is pretty cool but i wanna add that I grew up with a youth model Rem 870 Express 20 ga. I got it when I was about 12, to start pheasant hunting. If I remember right, I found a used one for around $175 and it worked like a champ for years until I upgraded to a 12 ga. Then, I sold it to a buddy's little brother and he used it for years after that. Good, cheap little shotguns.
