Just got some high-ish BC (.525) hunting bullets for my savage 111 7rm. 154gr Hdy SSTs. It took a few tries but I got 'em to shoot. Seated the bullets just deep enough so they had no rifling marks and worked in .5gr increments, starting conservatively for safety. Ended up at 68.5gr RL22, which ain't a light load, but 68.0gr was running 1" groups on the good side and more like averaging 1.5" groups @100yds. 68.5 was a half inch shooter for the gun; all groups were cold-bore each shot to make it "fair." Can't wait to see how they fly to 6 and 700 yards.

for deer, ithica deer slayer model 37, rifled barrel with 2 3/4 in remington sluggers. otherwise rifle wise guna have to be a browning .22 lever action. as hunting with a rifle in illinois is outlawed except for coyote, squirell, and a few other little things, and all you can use for them is a .22

Winchester Model 1917 in .30-06 with a Lyman peep sight. Since I mostly shoot hogs and deer, a piece of American history (estimated to be made in 1919) is a great experience.

Trueag, let's see pictures! Sounds like a nice one.
