Bodybuilding

ive started to work out and lift alot lately, and i started on the 300 workout, (what the actors in the movie 300 had to do to get in shape) and some more of my own other times of the day. does anyone else lift/workout? any tips or pics this would be the place to put them.

SouthernSportsman22 08-02-2010 09:06 PM

I did the P90X workout last year, but you must be in fairly good shape to keep up with those guys. I would have to shower after every workout. I also workout at the gym 4 or 5 times a week. Continue to mix up your workouts so your muscle memory doesn't stay the same.

jr moose 54 08-03-2010 07:59 AM

i play football and do cross country and so im in fair shape im just trying to get cut up better. the 300 workout goes 25 pull ups 50 dead lifts 50 push ups 50 box jumps 50 floor wipers 50 clean & presses and 25 more pull ups.

I wasn't a bodybuilder....just a lifter. But strength must come with a certain amount of muscle.

I did the BFS (bigger faster stronger) program. It's based on core lifts and auxiliary lifts working together causing muscle breakdown. Lifting is done 3x a week. Each week the number of reps you do changes in a cycle of 4 weeks. Allowing a day of rest is important to rebuild muscle, though feel free to go for a run on the off days. At 16, I had a bench press maximum of 330lbs. Just sayin (it worked for me).

The BFS program is a little confusing at first......lemme know if you want more details.

If you wanted to be an actually body builder.. then your gonna need a little more than just a workout.

Alot of highschool kids aren't dedicated to their lifting programs all 4 years of highschool so they try speeding up their bulk with protein drinks, muscle drinks, or whatever you wanna call them.
But for me I have lifting monday, tuesday, thursday, friday. tuesdays and fridays are running and leg worksouts then monday and thursdays are strength workouts.

OhioBowhunter 08-03-2010 10:30 AM

just that will not get you bigger, comming from a hs football player. heres what we do 2 days a week

Bench-5x5
squat-5x5
-then we mix it up, we will do two of the following, bent over rows-over head press-cleans-sumo DL-reg DL

then the other 2 days we do a circut for 30 minutes which is h*ll lol
4 step over hurdles (hip flexers)
1 350lb tire flip
30 yard block walk and shrug-cinder blocks
40 yard sled push-a little metal sled with a rod to put weight on and we use 45's
5 cleans
6 dips
5 over head squat
5(each leg) split squat-you take a rubber weight and put your back foot on it and do a lunge basically

but as z said you need to run as well, lifting isnt jsut the whole thing

Do something different every day to have your body guessing. I lift weights and do P90X. P90X is an extreme workout.

Yes I know. I forgot to mention that... If you did try protein drinks...You do have to do workouts along with it. Its just a substance to help build muscle faster. Or you can just drink a ton and ton of milk. :D

OhioBowhunter 08-03-2010 01:49 PM

oh i wasnt directing that toward you, i met that just one workout with no change lol

Pope94/IA 08-03-2010 06:36 PM

Ohhh lol. Yeah your gonna need more than one workout to get fit!

Buckmaster xX 08-03-2010 06:42 PM

P90X has many different work outs. I suggest you buy it as its worth your money.

Big Z 08-03-2010 11:39 PM

Through an athletic standpoint, you must recognize strength and explosivity. Strength is just moving weight at however slow a speed it takes. Explosivity is acceleration, speed, or muscle twitch sensitivity. In most athletic events, it's better to be explosive than strong, though the best will have a good combination of both. The main powerlifts (squat, bench, deadlift---strength) should be supplemented with olympic-style lifts (clean and jerk, jerk press, snatch--explosivity) and obviously auxiliary lifts to have a good balance of both worlds. Just some thoughts......Once again I can't claim bodybuilding experience, as all my lifting applications were practical.

jr moose 54 08-04-2010 07:54 PM

i work out every day and im not buying p90x. i have a home gym and my uncle owns a gym in the area and my dad was a past bodybuilder, i drink a protien shake after my workout and id say im doing good(:

OhioBowhunter 08-05-2010 04:45 PM

Just wait, I'll have you boys employing advanced intra-abdominal pressure before long :D

bayou_buckslayer 08-06-2010 11:19 AM

well.. this thread doesnt apply to me like at allll. but i have worked out before, with my dad, he does the 300 workout or something. and i did it with him, almost died, lol. I wanna work out more often, but its not like i need it, im naturally really skinny because i have a really fast matabalosim, (or however you spell it) but i do wanna be in shape..do yall have any exercises that could just work out your stomach? cause id like to look into that..

OhioBowhunter 08-06-2010 11:45 AM

sit ups and crunches are good for abs.

bayou_buckslayer 08-06-2010 01:38 PM

i do those... sometimes lol

marlin30/30_drabe 08-06-2010 01:42 PM

i should probably start working out, i have got a gut now and have gained about 40lbs in the last 6-8 months, its probably because i like to eat too much junk, im not the weight room type but more of biking on the county atv/snomobile trail

Big Z 08-06-2010 11:06 PM

Bayou,

The stomach muscles are core, and most everything else can benefit from a solid core. Forget fancy (my opinion). Basic core muscle exercises done in a few burnout sets 3-4x weekly is my approach.

In the bench press and especially squat, I use the aforementioned intra abdominal pressure to aid lifting. With a standard RAW (unequipped) 4" belt, I count on core muscles to press against the belt in a manner that increases stability-- particularly in the back, though the body as a whole is inclusive in benefiting. Even without using IAP on a belt, it still helps to have a good core. Just a practical understanding of the use of abdominal muscles to aid elsewhere in physical activity....(the core is your base for many things).

OhioBowhunter 08-08-2010 05:37 PM

there you go again z!!! always beatin me to the punch :(

Big Z 08-08-2010 09:15 PM

Doesn't hurt, to speak from experience ;) :D

I workout a little...

Im not pro but i'll try and answer any specific questions if anyone needs help...and p90x isnt for everyone, it doesnt fit the look some people are going for.

Keep lifting and keep shooting :)

To get big you hafta eat big. I'm skinny, high metabolism. To gain weight I eat a minimum of 5000 clean calories. Split your days up as in chest day back day shoulder, legs, arms. You have to give muscles time to recover. You don't grow when you're lifting. You grow when your resting

for a new lifter, personally, i suggest ( as dumb as i sound ) u work your full body 3 days a week, after a few months of this u can switch over to certain muscle groups on certain days...

genesis27:3 08-11-2010 02:25 PM

You wanna make sure you switch it up a bit cause if you work the same muscles too often it could have a negative effect on body building. I like to do my upper body workouts on monday than tuesday I do my core workouts, wensday I do my leg workouts, thursday I do coditioning (run 3-7 miles). Friday, saturday , and sunday I take it easy and then monday I start all over again. Protein is also very important after football and workouts I drink a minimum of 25 grams of whey protein. You wanna eat/drink your protein either 30 minutes before or after your workout for maximum effect.
Body building also takes determination if you can just stick to it the reward is great!
Ha ha Good luck.
Gen
Ps. p90x is also a good progam I would reccomend it. I have done it twice and very much enjoyed it.

Siman08/OH 08-14-2010 09:50 AM

I have probably worked out about 4 times in my life.

Buckmaster xX 08-18-2010 03:12 PM

This my first year doing P90X. Im on day 13 and its a complete physical challenge to get done. Im already fit, but using it to tone up. And well 13 days im already getting ripped. Just 67 more days :)

BTW it defiently isnt for everyone. You got to have some serious determination to stick with it.
