My husband, aka daddy, taught me to shoot and to hunt.

No I just call him that. My mom was only 15 when I was born. I don't know who my biological father is and my mom says she doesn't know either. I call my husband daddy, because he's a bit older than I am.

Well, I honestly believe its not safe for under 16-18 to be hunting out in the wild

You are so wrong it is incredible!!!! Perhaps you were not ready but there are plenty of kids that a parent or parents or some other mentor took the time to teach them and allowed the child to accompany them when they were 5 or 6 on occasions until they were 12, they were taught to shoot at a young age and taught safety rules and it was instilled into them that safety are rules and not suggestions. I accompanied my day and walked his trap line with my dad starting when I was in 1st grade several times a year, I would sit and listen to conversation about hunting between my dad and uncles and I was shooting a BB gun well enough in the 1st grade that I was the official English sparrow and starling remover around the barn and chicken houses. I grew up to become a Game Warden and I have many friends with similar history. Every kid is different, some are not ready at 12 and many are if they were prepared before the time came to join the ranks.

my dad was not much into hunting, but he loved watching hunting pheasants with bird dogs,
and occasionally squirrels
I was along on trips since I was maybe 6-7 years old

Like many others, I started with a BB/pellet gun at maybe 8 or 9 years old and moved up to 22s and shotguns. I was told that any gun I misused would be taken away permanently which obviously made an impression. I think the correct age to start depends on the individual. Some people are responsible at an early age and others will never be responsible.
