Should I Bow Hunt?

I have recently been thinking of getting into bow hunting (not 3D bow hunting). I was just wondering, is bowhunting a whole lot of fun? What kind of gear do you guys recommend I get as a beginner? Thanks.

Hey guys, this is Bowboy21
Anyway-You really shouls start bow hunting, it is a great (the best) type of hunting. A good choice for a starter is a PSE, both myself and Wicman shoot thier bows(I shoot a PSE Whitetail Extreme), as do many other thousands of bowhunters. Either Muzzys or Thunderheads are top of the line. Arrows are up to you although I suggest carbons.
Go to a local ProShop and they will set you up for your soon to be favorite pasttime

bow hunting is alot of fun there is no greater thrill than bow hunting because of how close you have to be to get a shot. PSE makes good bows for starters other good bows are Hoyt and Mathews. I suggest a fiber optic sight and shoot with a release it takes away some of the human error that can cause you to miss. you said not 3D shooting I dont do them myself but I do suggest it for lots of good practice judgeing distances but shoot as much as you can to get accurate.

RE: Should I Bow Hunt?

i love to bowhunt, as do many people on this board. Look to PSE for your bow. Look at the Whitetail Extreme, Nova, and the Spyder. All are great bows. I personally shoot a Spyder, but it is too small, so i am getting a new bow soon, maybe a BowTech VFT. You dont necessarily need carbons. My 2013s weigh about the same as my dads carbons, but carbons are more durable. Remember, the heavier your arrow, the more kinetic energy you have. Put alot into your equiptment and you will get alot out of it. Hope this helps

Oh yah, muzzys and thunderheads are great broadheads, but most any broadhead from a big name company will work.

i have only been bow hunting for a couple of years and have not yet taken any deer doing so, however, i have missed several opportunities. i would choose bow hunting over gun hunting if i had to --- its soooo much more fun!

i would rather watch a deer while bowhunting than shoot one gun hunting because the adrenaline is so much more!

YES! Been bow hunting once - saw and heard nothing but squirrels - and it is fun! I' ve yet to tag my 1st deer period, although one got away last year.
I use a Alpine Achery Sierra Magnum.

Be careful......it' s addicting!;) Get a bow and get it quick! If you' re on a real budget, go with PSE or Reflex (Reflex is made by hoyt and has cam.5) I personally shoot an ' 02 Bowtech Patriot, and honestly think that Bowtech is the best, but there' s others that think otherwise. Look into a Bowtech Stalker or something. Arrows, I personally Prefer PSE Carbon Force Dominators. 7-layer (as opposed to many 5 layer) straight, fast, cheap! MUZZY broadheads definately, Scott little goose release, any sight will work, GKF Tranquilizer stabilizer, almost any will work as well, and any release will work, but some better than others. Good luck! Heck yes Bowhunting is fun!!!!!!!!!!!! Also look at joining a local target league or something, great practice, and great advice from nice shooters. Almost ANY will be willing to help a kid out!

RE: Should I Bow Hunt?

I would really recommend bow hunting. One reason last year was my first year bow hunting and I saw 8 different buck and two doe. I saw more deer in archery than i did all rifle season. Not just that, but i didnt see any buck in rifle. Archery would be a good idea because it will give you more chances at getting a deer. You do see more deer if you really scout out the area and set up your stand at the right spot. Although you see alot more deer it is more challenging which is what I think makes it more fun.

if you are going to hunt elk i would say a Browing 40 pound draw weight and a drop rest. The cheetah arrows would work fine and the broadheads to shoot is 100 gr. muzzy. go bow hunting!
