im new to this website and i was wonderin which gun i should buy a .243 or a 30-30???

.270 is what i use for deer i dont know were you are at... 270 is the best all around gun i think but if i was going between a .243 and a 30-30 i'd go with a .243

30-06 is a very fine gun. I use my dad's, and it works perfectly. I wouldnt switch.

Both are decent cartridges for deer. I don't know about hogs. Haven't hunted them. I would say it really depends on your hunting situation. If you live in an area where your average shot is going to be around 100yds with maybe the occasional shot out to 150 and your in hunting in wooded areas where you need a quick second shot for a brush gun. Then go with a marlin 30-30 lever action. If you're gonna have any shots out in the 200yd range I would go with a .243 win. If a quick second shot isn't important I'd suggest buy a handi-rifle. They're fairly inexpensive. I had one for about eight years. Bought it when I was 16 and deer hunted with it for years in KY and also took many coyotes with it. Great guns. I stand behind the .243 win

remingtons are very nice! but it what you buy depends on what you have now. do YOU own any other guns? do you plan on hunting anything else in the near future? cause if you have a desire to hunt something bigger than a 30-06 is what you need! and it will work just fine on deer and hogs to!

right now i have a winchester 30-30 that is my grandmas and a 223 ruger semi auto. my dad has a remington 600 .243 and a mossberg 30-06

Have you shot all of those guns? can you get access to any of them no matter what season it is? if your dad is going to use the .243 and thats what you want then buy a .243 or vice verca! go to a gun store and look at them both and see what fits you best!

Of the two cartridges you listed, I would choose the 243 hands down. If you're not dead set on getting a 243 or 30-30, though, you should really take a look at the 7mm-08. It'll handle everything from coyotes to elk with minimal recoil and great performance.

If you're young and still not big enough to comfortably handle a full-size rifle, you ought to take a look at youth rifles, such as the Remington Model 7 Youth.

One more thing- if you've never shot a scoped gun before, ask your dad if he can put a scope on one of your .22's, then practice with that .22 as much as you can. Pretend like you're shooting a big game rifle. Take your time on every shot and practice controlling your breating and squeezing that trigger nice and smooth. Then, after you've gotten in a lot of practice with your .22, move up to your big-game rifle.

I agree with what wyotimberghost said. I have a Marlin 30-30 lever action and believe it is the best all around gun for me. But thats for me. I can handle the recoil and sound. I also have a Mauser custom .270 but haven't had the chance to shoot it yet. I wouldn't recommend a full size rifle, especially the .270 to someone who isn't used that to that kind of recoil or length. Also for hogs I highly don't recommend a bolt action. You seriously might want to consider levers. They're a quicker action and a faster shot in the right hands.

I shoot a Ruger M77 Mark2 .243,its a really nice deer rifle.So get a .243.

Yea well i shoot my 300 WSM for deer and hogs and about anything else that wants to walk in front of me but that dosnt make it the perfect deer cartridge. Get which ever one you feel more comfortable with. You will be happier that way in the end.

Either are good rifles. Go and hold both of them a few times and see which feels to fit you better.

that is what i have i have a 243 for whitetail and some hogs it is a great all around gun but my dad has a 270. but if i were you i woudl just figure what works best for you

you might want to try the remington youth model 770 i think that is what i have it is light durable and works really
