hunting this weekend!
 

i went hunting pheasant and rabbit this weekend for opening week in Illinois! i didnt see any rabbits, or pheasantsbut did see4 coyotes! they are currently hanging in a tanner! kind of a bummer, but we saw coyote trails that looked like deer trails, and coyote dens everywhere! anyone else have this problem around them? i really think the coyotes just ate all the rabbits and pheasants in are area!

We have rabbits and we don't see all that much sign of coyotes. I think the lack of pheasants is due more to loss of habitat than predation by coyotes.

Pheasants are an introduced species, but rabbits and coyotes have been around together for a long time.

Look around you at all the land that used to be farms and fields that are now shopping malls and subdivisions.

There are some rabbits living in the shrubs around our house and we live in the city. But we don't keep a carefully manicured yard like some people do.

ya but im hunting in an all farm area! nearest town is 28 miles away! next closest is 36! the rest is farm land, and animal pastures!

I love rabbit hunting, but I have to be my own beagle. Otherwise they just lay low. My husband won't scare them out for me.

I guess hunting is off until next year though, for both of us. He won't go out without me.

Keep trying. So many rabbits are eating our plants, and running around my yard, but I cant get one in the woods [:@]
Im gonna try and snare them in the winter.

Ive tried it during the summer, but didnt get any. At least in winter it should be easy.

I know where they go, just that they wont get in the snare. Maybe they werent there in summer. Who knows? But I hope for some rabbit meat in the winter.

If it wasnt illegal to shoot a .22 in my town, there would be dead rabbits everywhere. My town has too many laws and regulations. I hate my town...

back in my town (home not college) we literally had 12 dead ones in the road between my house and my highschool every day! my town is crawling with them! to bad hunting in town is illegal! I would have tons of great meat!:D

i think instead of shootin pheasants and rabbits id be goin after those yotes, kill them and your pheasant and rabbit numbers will increase. I did a lil cleaing up this weekend on the coyotes. Killed 5, one of them i nailed at 250yds and he was on a dead run, my best shot to date.

wow its a small world... I also was pheasant hunting last weekend. I saw 1 rooster 5 hens 7 deer and about 20 rabbits in the 4 hours of hunting! unfortuntly i did not get a shot at the rooster cuz the dog was in the way and the bird flew to low.[:@][&:]:( We did not shoot the rabbits obviously cuz the dogs were running around. even though i didnt get anything i still had fun and want to try next weekend!!! I was hunting around Paw Paw illinois where were u hunting?
