if your going to be out in the woods small gaming id get a 22. hands down....more power and speed....now if your doing some urban hunting (backyard) or want a real challenge id say go with the air rifle....i have both a 22. cal rife and a 22. cal pellet gun and i enjoy both of them but for serious small game ill take my regular 22. hands down...

alot of people will debate this, but i know as well as many ,embers on here shot many MANY birds and chipmunks with the old 10 pump BB guns that are going around 600FPS. but for serious small game hutnting with an air rifle id say at least 800FPS, my 22. air rifle is going 800 and it has NO problem taking out squirels, chipmunks, ground hogs, racoons opossums...so if you want a 22. cal pellet gun (i personally think they are better suited because they are shooting a much larger projectile that it makes up for the 200FPS loss over the 177 cal) but if you decide you want a 177 because of speed or the more choices of pellets you have id get at least 1000FPS on that so its just shocking the heck out of whatever you hit....

Well it depends on your preference. I personally like the pump actions offered from henry. They also have a youth bolt model that you could use if your younger and they also have octagon barrel options if you like that. The 10/22 from ruger are excellent guns and the semi - automatic style you may like better. It's really up to you as they are all accurate for small game hunting.

if you are allowed to hunt with a semi auto in your state, the 10/22 is most definately the way to go...if not id look into either a bolt or a lever...i have an ollllld markin 22 lever and i love that thing...very quick shooting.....

i know the msrp of a 10/22 is like $ 275 or something. i kinda like the looks of savages but im nota big gun nut so i wouldnt know much. also i asked my dad about it and he said that he wouldnt let me hunt squirrels with a .22 rifle becauseare neighbors on one side are kinda close but icould use my 20 gauge for that. but also do you think you could coyote hunt with a .22 win. mag?
