RE: HELP ME!!!
you could go on many things , the heat differences , the animals moving differently , the focus in the south being water and food in the north , different methods , like spot and stalk is the thing in the south west , and stand hunting is more from up north, its a very braod topic , you could talk about basically anything to do with hunting or animals being different in both areas. hope it helped GL

RE: HELP ME!!!
If i were you i would pick one state from the south and one from the north to use as examples, that would make your research easier and kinda narrow the subject, just an idea;)

RE: HELP ME!!!
Up north here we usually stand hunt or do deer drives. Down south it seems they either do dog drives or still hunting more. Up north our rut is earlier also than it is down south. Most of the time the body size on our deer are bigger also.

RE: HELP ME!!!
If i were you i think that i would find two people on here, one from the north and one from the south, and "interview" them. Im from the north (WI) so i'll give you some info.
up here there is almost always snow during gun deer season. that means that if it drops below a certain temperature the deer will stop moving and you might have to still hunt. Usually im up in a tree stand though looking over a swamp or dense oak/pine forest. the shots i make are typically out to about 140 yards and i use a 30-06. the deer we hunt here are of course whitetail and a good sized buck will be about 180 pounds or so. i have yet to shoot one over 200. also, the growing season for deer plants is shorter than in the southso that affects what the deer will be eating when season rolls around, acorns, grass etc... hope this helps some |

RE: HELP ME!!!
Southern hunting is a state of mind.:):) There are all the obvious differences, but there's also a cultural difference if you get into the real deep South good ole boy hunting adventures. They also have some very social hunts. Nothing like a gathering(by invitation only of course) at some farm hours before a dove hunt. A few ice teas, maybe a lunch, a lot of lies and story telling. I mean, the shoot is secondary to the days events. It's a slow paced, behave yourself, listen to the host instructions and ya'll play safe. It's truly a gracious event. Along with that you have quail hunts, deer dog hunts, all sorts of different things in the South. It's truly a much stronger tradition passed on from generation to generation. Oh you can find some of that up North too.... but folks, it just doesn't have the same flare. You will find too that Southern Good Ole boys tend to make up their own laws, bag limits, etc etc on their property. It's just the way it is. AND...if you ever want to be ask back, don't question it. I had some truly great times when I lived in Georgia with the good ole boys. I think I was their "TOKEN YANKEE". I was in 3 different hunting clubs and when the meetings turned to a little nip from the bottle it would always come up. "How in the HE!! did we ever let this Yankee in the club"? Southern Hunting is a State of mind. If you ain't been there, you don't understand it. If you've been there, you know exactly what I mean.:):)
P.S. I don't care how many ruffed grouse you've killed. Don't EVER... I mean NEVER... try to outshoot a Southern boy on a dove field. |
RE: HELP ME!!!
