Bow Hunting
I have a question for all.
I currently hunt with a crossbow....I was too young to pull back a 40 lb. bow in the cold when I first started hunting and i have never bothered to replace it with a compound. I'm planning on moving to a regular bow next year. I looked at compounds and I am starting to feel that they are too mechanically advanced to be considered a "primitive weapon". What are you opinions? on crossbows and compounds. Currently, I'm looking into a recurve. I just wanted to see what everyone here thought. |

RE: Bow Hunting
Personally if your just starting with a vertical bow i would suggest
the compound and once you have got the hang of shooting it then maybe look into the recurve. Trust me shootinga compound isnt as easy as it looks, it takes alot of practice before you feel confident enoughto go hunting with it. I think the compound would be the better choice to get started, yes it is more advanced but those advancements like letoff and smooth drawing make it easier to get the feel of how a vertical bow shoots. |
RE: Bow Hunting
i wouldn't even really call modern recurves primitave. unless you go out back and make one yourself, i'd call that primative.

RE: Bow Hunting
I'm into bowhunting but with a compound so i couldn't suggest any particular type of recurved. You should check out the tradition bowhunting/bowhunting section on the forums as well

RE: Bow Hunting
It all depends on your level of determination.

RE: Bow Hunting
Theres so many loopholes on how "traditional" stuff is anymore. If you shoot a recurve but wear scent blocker suits, rubber boots, out of an aluminum treestand, is that traditional? You can shoot your recurve in jeans and a t-shirt for all i care, but as for the traditional aspect, its to hard of a line to draw. I shoot my compound and im perfectly happy with it. And personally, if your switching from a crossbow...the compound is the way to go. I've seen to many guys working at the shop shooting crossbows that look at traditionals with these faces like,"Theres no way in hell."

RE: Bow Hunting
i shoot a crossbow, and it is the best, even though some people think they r to easy. the one i have has 200lbs draw weight, and shoots 330 fps, i think they r the best bows
