Velvet Bucks in the Young Hunters
i already asked this question on the main deer contest forum but thought i would as here too. how will velvet bucks be scored in the contest?

RE: Velvet Bucks in the Young Hunters
They should be scored the same as any other deer. By the time the earliest seasons open (Late August/Early September) the antlers are all done growing and hardening. The velvet isn't thick enough to hinder the scoring process as it doesn't add enough extra mass to create problems.

Same Scoring as regular buck. Best of luck to everyone.

Thats good... With the KY season starting so early it makes a good chance for a velvet buck early on

RE: Velvet Bucks in the Young Hunters
Washington's season opens September 1st. This is proof that nice bucks can deffinitely be taken early on in the season.
![]() ![]() ![]() The guy in camo is my father, this is the first buck he's taken in velvet. He was hunting a stand I hung in Mid-August along the edge of an alfalfa field. Two days before he had the big 5x5 I was shooting for within 20 yards of his tree, but he was screened by brush. The older gentleman is the landowner and good friend of our family. The buck scored 120 2/8". |
