Default Watering Hole

Wondering if anyone had any success or information on setting up some sort of watering hole to attract deer. It seems that a water source is the one thing my 160 acres seriously lacks. I tried digging a large trough to collect runoff and lined it with heavy plastic. Plastic wasn't thick enough and the deer punched right through it with their hooves. Tried using a kids pool and they pierced that too. Any ideas or testimonials would be appreciated.

Get some heavy clay to line your proposed watering hole , tamp it in well and it should hold water .

could you put a galvanized steel watering trough in there? or even some 55 gallon drums cut in half to make 2 U shaped troughs? just an idea. around here, you can buy used 55 gallon drums (metal or polyethylene) for $5.

Good idea Psandhu .

Don't forget to add something to it to keep it from becoming a mosquito breeding station . Mosquito dunks containing BT Israelensis work well , but so do nice cheap goldfish from the petshop .
