Rye for a dove plot?

Last fall I planted some rye (the cereal grain, not the grass) for deer. I planted it along the edge of my dove plot. Now the rye is 24-30" tall and producing seed heads.

Should I leave it standing until September? Would the seeds fall off by then?

Should I plow it under and plant sunflowers or corn over it?

RE: Rye for a dove plot?

If you want to use it to attract doves - I think its important to mow it - to a stubble for the doves to get it. Cereal Grain is not as good as some other seeds like corn or sunflowers but would have some benefit it would seem

Also - when mowed in Late August - a good bit "sprouts Back" for another - (less vigorous) fall Rye plot.
