Round Up as you probably know is a brand of weed killer and a pretty good one at that. Monsanto has developed seeds;
corn, soybeans etc that are not affected by the Round Up. Great for farmers and great for food plotters.
For example I can broadcast plant soybeans in a small field and spray the weeds using a back pack sprayer with Round Up without killing the soys.

As answer guy says weed control is a very important part of growing a good crop, you cant grow 2 crops in the same space weeds and grain. For many years we had few options on weed control, premerge and that was it a few years ago a post-merge product called Blazer was developed and when applied it burnt the beans so badly that the cliche was spray your beans then leave home for three weeks, then Monsanto in their genetiacally altered seed labs developed a seed that could withstand post emerge spraying, we refer to it as Roundup ready, but the seed bags are labeleded herbicide ready. When the plants get some size and have weeds and grasses in the field you can spray over the top and hit the grain crop, corn or beans , without damaging it and kill the weeds and grass that has already emerged. The seed is a little more costly for the herbicide resistance, this year the price of a unit (50
#) is going to be $33.50 compared to $17.00 for non RR beans, The non RR you can plant will conventional post emerge Lasso, Lorox, Treflan , but if weeds come later you cant spray over the beans, you either have to cultivate or remove weeds mechanically.We plat over 4,000 acres of soybeans and they are all RR. Asgrow or Dekalb, and we plant by seed count comes out to about 70# p/a.
