Hogs & Mineral Licks

Two (or more) part question? I've heard that mineral licks are more utilized and/or serve more purpose in the spring months....Any experience and/or knowledge is appreciated.

Secondly, I assume hogs eat anything in their path. So, am I correct in assuming they would tear up any mineral licks that I put out? Experience, knowledge, or unique ideas on how to keep them out?

Thank you in advance!

RE: Hogs & Mineral Licks

A semi unique answer is to use deer blocks with minerals and hang them in wire baskets or an actual block feeder up higher. That way all that hogs can get is what is dropped.

I made the mistake of buying a number of blocks for Llano one year. Put a few at each stand. Came back next weekend to trim etc.... Every last one was gone--by hogs. We hung them in hog wire homemade baskets after that.
