My planting day is still about 3 months off. Were those bare root or potted trees that you put in this year? I like the convienence of the potted trees but I've found some horror stories when I checked the way that they let the roots grow in the soil ball.

Early Riser like what you put on the board. Much like myself. Good info all the time.
Just made some clear-cut while beagles were running. The chainsaw is an awesome tool for the habitat. You trees look good. just moved 200+ christmas trees to rabbit grounds. I wish all hunter would spend sundays afield. There would be no shortage of game. Till our trails cross, Wild Work ORIGINAL: early riser Yes Dan O, these were bare root trees. I even watched the man whom grafted and grew them dig up 3 additional trees I decided to add after placing my order and having him pre dig the larger order. I know I got FRESH trees, they were dug Monday, I picked them up Tuesday and Friday and Saturday they were back in the ground at Crabapple. early riser |

I sure do appreciate the work you guys do at Crabapple. looks like your apple orchard is well on its way! I Jealous, Like Dan O. - I've got at least 3 months before tree planting too.
Do you plan to Maintain the orchard for Fruit Production (spraying/pruning and harvesting?)? Were they Semi Dwarf? Also - What do you plan to use for a cover/companion crop with the apple trees - now that its not a "food plot" anymore? Will you treat it like a pasture - and overseed/mow clover? Or do you plan to let it go back to grasses and keep it mowed? I have a similar project in the works for Apples, White Oaks, Sugar Maple and various conifer plantings. |
