protect them from the deer. My brother planted about 50 4 feet high trees and the deer destroyed everyone. Not by eating but by rubbing. He planted them all over and they hit each one. Ones that survived or grew back from the base I put cut down trees or prickly ash around them so the deer wouldn't get to them. Now they are 10 to 15 feet high.

We planted 200 last year but low rainfall got to quite a few . These are about 12" tall when we plant them I have 1500 douglas fir that I have to plant this year and 100 redwood . Deer can be a real problem around young trees .Luck

I have finally resorted to fencing in the cedar until they are higher that the deer can reach. Otherwise they eat them down in one winter. This is in Central Minn.

We know of folks that lime the trees lightly as a deterant to the wildlife. Unfortunatly, ya have to do it after every rain.

How long did it take for the cedars to reach 10-15'? Do you know if beavers will generally take down cedar? I have too many beavers around to put a lot of effort into this if there just going to chop them down. They don't appear to though. That's a great idea with the brush though, it's either that or fences because the deer will definately eat them.
