Can you put too much fertilizer or lime on a food plot? Or can you put too much seed in a plot?

how much N did you put out? P and K can be forgiving.

take a soil test and put on the recommended amounts of N,P, K & lime. as for the seed, you can put on as much as you like - but again follow the recomendations for the seed. there is a point where only so much seed can germinate/grow (both physiologically and physically). so when you go beyond that point you are just throwing your money away.

B5, too much of anything is not good. You can't really tell how much fertilizer and lime to apply until you take a soil sample and have it anaylized. Whoever does this for you will tell you the approximate amounts of nutrients to apply. This scientific adventure can save you a lot of time and money. If you do it right, you can avoid a lot of disappointment too. There are recommended amounts of seed that you plant and the guy that you buy it from should be able to tell you the application rate. The fertilizer recommendations that you get are for the optimal economic return from a crop. You can spread more fertilizer and it will increase your crop but it wouldn't be economical if you were in business to sell the crop. You will reach some point where the excess fertilizer becomes toxic to the crop. In the case of lime you will raise the pH to the point where the crop cannot grow.
