salt lick
this is my frist year hunting wild life mangment can i use a salt lick to bring deer in my area can i do it?? in south carolina 1 hunting zone

Highly recommend you ask your Natural Resources Police that question. The lines aren't always cut in dry and leave a lot of room for interpretation. Better to ask first since forgiveness is rarely given...

no you can't hunt deer over salt in any state that I know of.

If it is on a wildlife management area it would probably pay to just ask a game warden. Lot of times their laws will vary from the state laws they are located in.

NO you cannot hunt OVER salt licks in SC game zone 1. This is considered baiting which is illegal in the upstate. I have however put out mineral licks to see how many deer were in the area but never hunted over them. Just be careful on game management, gamewardens IMO don't differentiate between having a saltlick in the vicinity to hunting over it and may charge you accordingly. |

Correction to someones statement, In Delaware you can hunt over corn piles. I dont think salt would bring deer in, it would probably be a good idea in conjunction with food plots.. If you are located near salt water, a bay or estuary salt blocks are worthless as they are getting it from the tidal marshes...

its legal in NEW JERSEY but i wouldnt waste my money this time of the year. put a little out in the spring and summer. works good for trail camera pictures early summer but thats about it. i never see any deer come into salt or deer cocain type products in the fall during shooting hours. thats the deer in my area anyway:eek:
