Small plots work everywhere - Rye or winter wheat is a good choice in the area you describe - especially since you are looking at a fall plot.

Its important not to expect much from a small plot. Deer eat 1000s of lbs of forage a year - a small plot should be looked at as a "desert" for deer - or a "timely snack". To be effective, you want it planted very near a corridor for ample deer movement - the plot should give them cause to stop, an help you harvest a deer.

Don't expect larger antlers, huge deer, etc.

njhunter, you should consider secret spot. I had good luck with it last year. I just got some more. It's $10 a bag.

Look at the QuakerBoys Northern Fall Mix. I plant this in small plots with lots of secess , its seeds that grow in the colder climates and is produced in Ontario. You won't be sorry...BT
