Recieved soil test results-Need help

I have plowed approximately 2 acres of fescue pasture ground on top of a large hill that has a fair amount of cover around it. My soil test results say the (ph is 5.9) (Available P is 5) (Exch. K is 257)I want to plant either soybeans or clover or both. Does anyone know which would work best with this type of soil and what type of fertilizer or lime I should add.

Usually the tops of hills are too dry for the ladino clovers. Their shallow rooted. We would suggest an alfalfa blend. Stay away from the salt based fertilizers.

Your pH is borderline but ok for this year. You want the pH 5.9 to 6.5 . Soil test should give recomendations for the amout of P and K per acre. Please post those recomendations and we will go from there.

kchunter; what is the buffer pH of the soil?

For clover you would need 110 kg/ha phosphate and 0 Potash. Also 15 kg/ha of N is recommended at seeding.

For soybeans: 10 kg/ha N at seeding, 60 kg/ha phosphate and 0 potash.

All these recommendations are based on the sodium bicarbonate phosphorus test and the ammonium acetate potassium test.
