Wild Radish

I originally posted a question under "food plot gone bad" and got some usefull info. I have now identified my weed infestation as wild radish. I have to believe the seed I planted was infested with this as no surrounding fields have any trace of this. Also nearly 90% of the plot is thick with this. Is there any value wildlife wise to this or should I get the brushhog going before the "seed pods" mature? As a point of fact, the seed planted was Strut and Rut seed supplied the NWTF and planting location is western NY.

Honestly I would spray it with some strong weed killer before your problem gets worse than it is. At least the seed pods havn't matured yet and you can kill it before it gets too far ahead. You will have time to then plant a new fall food plot.

It does not look like that picture, but the description is right on, also found it in another guide. The height is about 2 feet and the seed pods are sectional. Leaf and stem description is also correct. The pictured in the link are individual plants, my plot is so thick with it that they are tough to walk through.

Originally I thought you had a mustard - but I agree with you assessment of wild radish -

I've got it in my corn this year too - it is real tough - I can't mow - and I'll have a million seeds next year.

Here's a link

http://www.ppws.vt.edu/scott/weed_id/rapra.htm

You can see it in this picture of my corn plot from June - It got worse!

Mow is you can - its tough to get rid of - I'll be planting a round up ready plot the next 2 years on this field to try to reduce the residual seed base.
