RE: horse feed
And also not all deer are the same if they were all the same all bucks would have the same amount of antlers they would have the same markings.Do you believe everything a expert says? You learn hands on not by reading what the"experts say and write"

RE: horse feed
Are you putting your feed out on the ground or do you use a feeder? I guess what I'm asking is how do you apply this. I'd like to get it right or close the first time. I don't want to use it wrong and waste the money.

RE: horse feed
I put the feed in a small open style feeder in a open area where I can.But you can put it on the ground if you have a little opening around some pine trees. And if you end up feeding alot of deer,I would try to put feed in a few piles around the area. And try some alfalfa cubes or hay along with the grain that you want to use.The alf.hay works for me when it starts getting real cold in my area.Good luck with whatever you do.You'll know what works when you start doing it.

RE: horse feed
Most feeds will become offensive when they become wet. The "J" type PVC feeders work well for these type of situations. As far as deer nutrition goes, there are some basics. The main differece is wether the deer is free ranging or penned. Penned deer are a whole new ball game. The wrong feed/nutrition and you may loose the herd. Generally the free ranging deer will eat what they like and leave the rest. Good forage like alfalfa and clover are the meat and potato's of the diet. Book learin' goes a long way.... Trial and error is costly and time consuming.

RE: horse feed
I do have 360 college quarter credits and about 14 semester credits. There has got to be some difference between bone and antler. Antlers growth rate far exceeds bone growth rate. I was just stating you shouldn't compare two different animals genetic makeup.

RE: horse feed
I have 70 acres to work with. Approximately 15 acres is field. The rest is crab apple, oak, hickory, some beechnut and cherry. Neighboring farms have corn planted. I will be planting corn this year. The deer get plenty of feed. The deer are free ranging. I'm just looking to grow bigger antlers. Do you fellows know of any books that might help me out also?
