RW... I am in the Piedmont of GA and have pretty goos success doing just that. I try to time it to catch a rain shower just before we expect the first frost. I also add 10-10-10 at the same time.

Thanks, davidw.

I have some folks who live in your area and the terrain and climate is very similar to ours here so the situations should be comparable.
Also read in another thread a recommendation to disc up the clover, sow oats and then cultipack. The clover is supposed to recover and this allows the oats to get a root system into the soil better. Don't think I want to try that now due to stress from hot dry weather, but things could be a lot different by sowing time.
Just don't like the thought of cutting up an established plot, but the Whitetail clover is pretty resilient. What type oats did you use? Lot of discussion going on about Buck Forage Oats. Some guys say an oat is an oat, but my experience with clovers, esp. Whitetail Ins. products is that there is a difference. Mine survived the drought of '02 and came back very well. Not sure some farm varieties or even some other bred-for-deer products would have done the same.

RW,
I normally just use what is available at my local feed store. I have never had a problem with Tri-Chek brand oat, wheat, rye mix and it is pretty clean of "junk seed". I have spent a good bit of time (too much, probably) researching food plot mixes for my club and I really can't justify WTI products when I can mix the same at a cheaper price and get as good a result. I know some people swear by WTI or Biologic and I am sure that in most cases it may be higher quality, meaning it has less inert matter. You just have to be choosy with what you buy and get to know your locally available products.
