Does anyone know what this is and ....

what will kill it but not the clover? This plot is one I planted last spring with imperial clover. It has come back nicely but it had some grasses and this stuff in it. 2 weeks ago I hit it with Vantage and that wiped out ALL the grass leaving only the clover and this yellow plant. The clover is doing great but this yellow stuff is starting to over take it. Please let me know what you think it is and what will kill it leaving me a beautiful clover field. Thanks for all you help.

This is not an answer, but I am just curious as too how much clover you had to spread out to get it to look like that? Looks real good except for the yellow flowers.

Thanks,

Chris

Was there brassica in your mix last year? It could also be mustard seed but it is hard to tell from the photos as they aren't that clear.

I just sent the pics to the state weed science specialists office. If they can tell by the pics maybe we will have a answer soon.

Looks like a mustard - but its hard to tell which wild mustard it is. Wild Mustard is a brassica (like rapeseed). It is an annual, and is very intolerent to mowing once the flower blooms. You should mow your feild now before the seeds develop. Its not likely that you will have as many next year, or later this year. Its common in NY too, especially the first spring after plowing.

Thanks for all the help so far guys.

Chris5150, I planted about 1.5 times what the bags said to. It is all imperial clover. Last year I had some weed issues and this spring the clover came in real good but so did the weeds. On May 1 I sprayed with Vantage and I took those pictures on May 15. The Vantage really worked great on the grasses but then these damn yellow flowers came in.

Texasaggiebowhunter, thanks so much for sending the pics on. I didn't expect you guys to go that far. That is great. Let me know what they say.

Farm Hunter, I have had other people I work with call them mustard but nobody seems to know for sure. If I can't find something to spray them with then I will go mow them this weekend.

Osiris, I don't know if the imperial has any brassica in it or not. I don't have the bag anymore. I will check on their website and see if it says.

After the first cutting the weed will most likely not come back, just like dandelions. We have had this problem in a few of our fields which is fairly typical with first cropped hay fields.

Imperial Clover does not have brassica in it but I though maybe you might have mixed some in. As we have all stated, it looks like mustard but it is hard to tell.

If you try to mow it off and that does not kill it you might want to try "wicking" the plot. Good luck. I know how frustrating those weeds can be! TGK
