RE: winter wheat.......
You did just right. You plant wheat in the late summer or fall when you have soil moisture. The wheat will grow and stay green all winter. The reason wheat is grown over the winter months is because wheat has to vernalize. Vernalization is freezing of a plant. In order for wheat to flower it must first freeze. This is why you plant it in the fall, grows for awhile, lays dormant until spring, then you are able to harvest in late spring.

RE: winter wheat.......
last week in august to first week in Sept here in Central NY.
We usually use Rye over Winter Wheat for fall plots though, I'm thinking of trying the two "head to Head" this fall. |
