RE: lyme help
the extension agent here can do it for $7, and tell you your P and K levels too. they can tell you how much lime you need to add in order to bring it up to a certain level too. 1 ton/acre isn't very much. my dove plot tested at 5.6 last month and they recommended 3000 lbs of lime per acre. i hope you aren't going to buy bagged lime.
you can also buy a tester. it's a metal prong you stick in the ground with two electrodes made of different metals. there is a digital or analog readout of the pH.

RE: lyme help
you can get some real good advice for GA here:
http://www.woodystaxidermy.com/forums/index.php?s=
Maybe you are already aware of the site - There are some good folks there.
Sounds like you have gotten some good advice here as well. We cannot tell you how much lime to put down. Generally however in sandy soils, you will need to put "Less Down - More often" than for clay type soils.
I've read where Many in the south use the 1 ton/acre rule with good results - but don't bank on it - ask around - or better yet - do the soil sample.
