Ducks

What is the best plot to plant to attract ducks. We have had mainly wood duck. What would be great is something that deer will eat and when the field is flooded the ducks will come

RE: Ducks

You often read about draining beaver ponds, seeding the mud flats, then allowing the beavers to "fix up the dams" after the crop heads out -

Here is a better description, and maybe some other ideas.

willbejew,
If you want wood ducks and deer, plant oak trees. Both will devour the acorns. I don't know how big a body of water you have, but several trees along the bank will be all you need for woodies.

The only problem with that is my proberty is surrounded with oak trees and it would be hard to artract them to one area, I was thinking some kinda mixture and setting my blind then making rows out from that. What do yall susgest since i live in SOuth carolina...........

RE: Ducks

Each fall I manage to spend 3-4 mornings goose hunting a picked corn field. And each year I shoot 2-4 woodducks attempting to land in the goose decoys. We don't call them, we only have 4 doz goose decoys out, NO duck decoys. This is during the first two weeks of October in Wisconsin. I can only conclude that woodducks do feed in corn fields.

RE: Ducks

the waterfowl really love peas here but things may be different down south. Usually in the spring time i go around and check where the pea fields are in the area then stop and ask permission to hunt for the fall....It is a gaurantee when the fall comes everyone of those pea fields will have geese and a pea field near a marsh or slough will be loaded with ducks.
