What do do about Brassica?

Wondering what you do with the left over turnips, parsnips etc from brassica plants in the spring. Do you just till them under, leave them and just frost seed? Thanks for the input. TGK

I mowed them off and left the cuttings.

But what about the vegatables that were left in the ground? Do you just leave them too?

Yep - Leave em.

You might get some regeneration from them next year, but most will break down in a couple months and put nutrients back into the top layers of the soil.

You might be surprised how the deer eat the turnips etc down into the ground during a period of thaw. I understand that is the way other crops such as sugar beets are grazed off.

Good luck!

We have seen the deer dig the turnips up in the freeze...

Brassica roots are about 3 ft under snow this time of year in this area - they just don't get touched in my experience - the deer are much more dependent on traditional "yard area" browse, and grains like corn - around here anyhow.
