RE: Can Deer Survive on Winter Wheat?

As I read these posts I need to say the reason the deer dont bother our wheat is that we have a clover field CRP next to a wheat field. We also had a good mast crop this year, we have more problems with snow geese on the wheat than anything else.

Lunch bucket, Nope not driving to the tip of South America, Just SE. Ohio, LOL. about 35 acres of our 1,250 are fields that we cleared that use to be very thick briars and saplings ranging from 1 to 12 acres in size. The rest of the property is made up of mature hardwoods and very thick cleaar cuts. We were planting it in clover and corn but we and the farmer got rained out and were unable to plant for most of the spring and early summer and only got 3 acres of clover and 3 acres of corn. This year we are leting a farmer plant approx, 25 acres of corn & soy beans and planting another 10 acres of clover. ( we also plan on planting something on the 17 logging roads that go thru the property in the future) And hopefully planting 25 acres of winter wheat after the farmer harvests his crops but not sure if 25 acres will be enough to make a difference. We currently do have have minerals put out and we have some natural mineral springs that the deer have crators dug( They look like Elk wallows) Pike

P, I would say your doing just about all you can do... Maybe start fertilizing the mast trees for an insurance policy. Keep up the good work.
