Need help with West VA. suggestions

My buddy is buying 40 acres of woods in Western W. VA. , this property has a long driveway which has substantial clearing along each side and he wants to plant something to prevent erosion, which would be fescue, I was thinking about Ladino clover, to serve two purposes, deer feed and erosion prevention. as opposed to grass seed. It is currently all oaks and other hardwoods, what would work in that part of the country , I thin it is Tyler county, dont know much about that area.... Thanks lfor any help.

Crownvetch might be the answer. Some fruiting shrubs might also fit into his planting.
