feed plots
I own 135 acres in good old Kansas farm country. I have 30 acres of brome and 30 acres of CRP with 4 acres of food plots in the CRP. There is also a 15 acre winter wheat field with the balance being a nasty old pasture that is full of hedge trees and a creek with various timber. The deer seem to funnel thru pretty good during the fall and yard up in there in the winter. I would like to be able to hold them in better year round-especially in the fall. I have been planting milo in my feed plots, but that is a pretty common crop in the area. Any thoughts on what I might do to improve the habitat?

RE: feed plots
Hey widerack, cover and food are the ticket and sounds like you have both. I have 137 acres in N.Y. and a couple other things we did there is create a no hunting sanctuary for them. We designated 25 acres of good thick cover for this. We also don't do deer drives. We try to make the deer feel safe and comfortable. We also positioned our food plots where they can't be seen from any road to cut down on spotlighting harassment.

RE: feed plots
A good forage field like alfalfa and clover would not hurt...
