Sprayers and booms for ATV' s ?
I was thinking of ordering a 15 gallon sprayer and 7' boom for my ATV. I have two plots about 1/3 to 1/2 acre each. I would like to get this for spraying for weeds. Any suggestions or comments?
Thanks! |

Possibly the best and most informed place in the country is Superior Outdoor Equipment in Superior Nebraska. Talk to Arlen, he is top drawer.

Be sure your unit has an agitator and the pump can be easily take apart for cleaning and repairs. Strainers are very importnt.
You will need to be able to do P.M. on the unit so the unit should have an redily accessible parts supplier. Make sure you use a strainer BEFORE and AFTER liquid introduction and spray. A pump that pumps 3-5 GPM is recommended. Make sure you have removible screens on the tips. A good unit that is used on an ATV should cost about $350.00 - $500.00. |

you could try making your own. i use this 15 gallon, 10', 6 nozzle boom sprayer in a cart towed behind a riding mower. excluding the cost of the cart, the 15 gallon tank/pump, & the battery (i already had them); the materials for the sprayer were about $60 (nozzles, hoses, fittings). i can also undo the hose and attach another one. it converts to a wand spot sprayer with a 50' hose.

Give the make and model of the pump and the other supplies... We need to know where to contact for the items you used and a parts list. I see little trailers like the one in the picture at estate/garage sales for a few dollars all the time... Do you have any type of circuit breaker in the electric line? Tip screens?

i'm leaving town in a few hours for a few days, and am away from the boom sprayer.
off the top of my head...it's a kuker 15 gallon sprayer. i see them at hardware stores (pump, tank, wand and hose) for about $100. you can also make your own. the pump is a "shurflo". i see them in hardware stores for about $50. or check ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=46547 around here, 55 gallon polyethylene drums are $5. they fit in the back of my trailer and you can rig something with the pump and the drum for $5 plus the cost of the pump and maybe another $5 for fittings. i use a trolling motor battery for a power supply. i also put a little DC on/off switch in the wiring and have the switch clamped to the wheel of the riding mower. radio shack, $3. the boom is a regular 10' section of pvc. get the stiffest you can. $10. or use some scrap lumber if you have it, $0. get some brackets to attach it to your gate of the trailer. oh, the gate. it was originally a piece of plastic. i just took a chainsaw to a 2x12 after tracing the outline of the gate onto the wood. it fits like factory. hose, you'll need about 13' of hose. i don't remember the diamter. hose clamps, you'll need 14 of them. you'll have about 3' of discharge hose from your pump going to a T hose fitting. this is in the middle of your 10' boom. cut your hose into 4 24" sections, and 2 12" sections. put the 2 12" sections onto the left and right part of the T fitting and clamp it on. next you need some sprayer fittings. i don't remember the name, but they are for boom sprayers. 4 inline fittings and 2 end fittings. you also need to buy the nozzles. through trial and error and several returns, i found the best spray was with oval nozzles with a relatively small diameter. the pump will pump out 15 gallons in 13 minutes. this is measured pumping through the whole system set up to operate, not just transfering. |

That looks like the unit that I bought at TSC. It works great for spot/row spraying Roundup around the trees. Lawnfarmer built a wiper unit. Maybe we could get an update on how that worked.
