pears

Do deer like pears? Do they like them as much as apples?

RE: pears

I guess it depends on the deer. A few years ago I hunted on a lease where the deer would not eat apples. I put them out several times and they would rot. A friend of mine asked if I wanted some pears, said she had a tree that was loaded and I could get all I wanted. Well, it turns out the deer would eat them as fast as I could put them out. Out of curiousity I mixed some apples in with the pears and you guessed it, they would eat the pears and leave the apples to rot. I never have figured this out. The only thing I can suggest is to give it a try.

We have a few pear trees on a piece of property and the deer hover around the tree when it has fruit on it. Of course I have a stand within sight of the tree and have taken several deer under the tree. -- CDH ;)

RE: pears

We have some " wild pear trees" mixed in the old pasture with " wild apples" - and while the deer do like them - they always fall real early (september) and offer no advantage to the hunting season - we concentrate on the more abundant apples.
