Using a disc harrow

I have a disc harrow that i pull with my john deere tractor. The problem i have is that it leaves a fairly high ridge in the center and also along the outside. I tried about everything to eliminate this. Any suggestions? Thanks

The ridges you are talking about are the result of the angle of the disk. Adjust your disk to have less of an angle and you will have less of a ridge but will have to run over the same ground more times to get the same cut.

The newer, larger disk plows are designed with offsets between the gangs to prevent that.

I used to have an old 12' International tandem that wasn't offset and would leave a little ridge in the center when I plowed. I made a pipe drag for it that helped level the ridge and bust up larger dirt clods. It helped me get a little better seed bed.

Have the cut set wide open for the first pass and maybe the second. Then reduce the cut and run corner wise across the plot.
You could always get a spring tooth harrow for a final pass to knock the ridges down.

By having the cut wide open, do you mean the angle of the blades? Have the cutting discs straight instead of at an angle? Thanks

If your using the old pull type disk from the 40's thru the 60's you can adjust the cut setting in some way.

this one is a old Dearborn disc and is adjusted by how high the 3 point is lifted.

. I have an old IH set that you have to install a pin and a Massey Harris set that has notches on a lever to adjust the cut. I have a more modern Case set that uses a hrydrlic cylinder and the remote on the tractor.
