How is your Mast Crop this fall?
 

Our big mast crop is soft mast - APPLES. And after an almost non-existant apple crop last year - we are looking at a very good (not as good as 2 years ago) crop of apples this year. Ours are Wild Apple - and overgrown orchards from the early 1900s.

How is the apple crop looking in your area? Did you have apples last fall?

What about Beech nut, Acorns, wild cherries - or other key mast crop in your area?

We dont have any apple trees on our farm, only hardwoods like white oak and post oak, and they dont look good. We have 250 acres of oaks and no acorns anywhere except on a couple huge trees that I spiked last winter and spring. We usually have a lot of persimmons in a creek bottom near one of my food plots, but we dont have any of those either. Ive been really hustling at getting some new food plots this year, Ill have 7 on my farm this fall, they should be good.

Last year we had basically nothing as far as mast. No acorns and all of our apple bloom was frozing in May. This year we have an average apple crop, plenty of wild cherry and i think the oak will be fair. There appears to be some hickory nuts, not much for deer but the bear love them.

We have pretty good apples and acorns this year. No late frost last spring to kill the apple blossoms, so they came along well. Lots of big acorns, too.
I wish my food plots did as well.:D

We have a heavy mast of acorns in Delaware, scary, as far a weather predictions for the upcoming winter. When I walk in my walking trails , they are so heavy that some places they are a menace , afraid they will trip me.

White Acorns are plentifull, Persimmons are also loaded this year, and big. ;I have no wild apple trees, but my trees in the orchard are loaded. The early ones are gone, and the late ones are falling. Some Cherries still have some fruit, but a lot dropped early. There are a lot of Shag Bark Hickory but I haven' t checked them. aWe have had above normal rainfall which has really helped. Just got a half-acre of Austrian Peas planted and now the forecast is for a dry week. May be rough getting the seed up before the Turkeys get it.

Drought got a lot of the fruit types like persimmons. Our Oaks did OK, more white oaks than the others. Overall, dont see a huge impact on the mast crop.

The apple crop is average on quantity but the apples are small. The persimmon crop is a bit light. The pecans, oaks and walnuts are heavy.
