I thought I would share a couple of bedding and staging area videos...let me know what you think, the most recent is of a pretty cool staging area in SW WI...


"Staging Areas"...

How many of you have them? Often an active daylight staging area is a sure sign that your property is on the right track to success! Why? Because when a daylight staging area occurs it is reflective of the fact that the local deer herd feels comfortable moving from daytime bedding cover, through the staging area, and into the food source.

Think of a staging area as secure conduit of deer travel between bedding and feeding. When it is being used by the local deer herd effectively, it will be an area the doe family groups often bed in, and at the same time move through, 2-3 hours before dark on their direct journey to a food source.

It is critical that this area remain secure, unhunted, and unpressured throughout the hunting season and is a sure sign that you have managed to build a bedding to feeding pattern that is effective on your parcel....and most importantly, being used well within daytime hours so that you can safely set up on the backside of the bedding area...or even the sides of the movement to move in for the kill.

All of our properties have thickets and tall grassy areas that we never disturb. One place has 60 acres of swampy thicket. The importance of not disturbing those areas cannot be overstated. At the start of deer season the deer leave adjacent properties and head to our property where they are relatively safe.

We maintain trails that lead from sanctuaries to food sources.
