Wisconsin Planting question, *Field Corn*
Hi, i've never planted field corn before, Just wondering a few things like when the best planting dates, or times are, how deep do the seeds need to be? How much sunlight per day should it have to produce? any other helpful information would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Not sure about planting times there. When soil temps get to 50 degrees, usually right around your last average frost date, but not necessarily after all threat of frost has passed. Full sun. 2" deep. Dont skimp on the fertilizer.

Thanks, If i have only 3/4 day of sun will it still come up somewhat decent? its kind of a partially wooded area where i'd like to plant.

Late April in Southern WI through late May in Northern WI would be the best planting dates. Corn will not die from a frost when small, but it will get burned. It may do OK in partial sun, the north side of the plot will probably do better. Planting an earlier maturing hybrid (less days to maturity) may help as well.

I am in central wisconsin and normally corn gets in mid may. Depends on weather and what not.
Just keep a eye out when the farmers are getting the corn in. I assume you are getting Round up Ready corn. Spray that when it is around a foot tall is what I done and seen done. Good luck |
Like Hoss said dont skimp on the fertlizer, corn takes alot of it. I fertlizer mine twice, first with triple 17 and the second time with urea. I plant mine around the end of march, but I live in northern Arkansas, dont have a clue for the time that you need to plant.
