deer greens?
I had a friend tell me that deer greens works as good as biologic but for 1/2 the cost.
what do you think? |
RE: deer greens?
Deer greens??? What type of deer geens are you talking about? Biologic has several mixes and they all have different seed blends.
Of course, the commercial wildlife mixes are going to be more expensve than if you go to your local seed store to buy seed. Many folks like to plant their own seed mixtures and some prefer the commercial ready blended and inoculated products. There are advantages to doing it either way. How hard the deer hit your plot will depend on what is available on neighboring properties. If your friend live close to you and has had very good results with his deer greens you might want to give it a try and let us know how it turned out and the type of seed that you planted. |

RE: deer greens?
CORNBREAD!!! Man, I haven't had decent cornbread since my ex mother in law... This Pollock gal sure cooks good but ya gotta have a hilbilly gal to make fried chicken and cornbread.... Ate at a place outside Montgomery a few years back called Martins restaurant... They had some chicken called picky/pully bones.... WOW....

RE: deer greens?
Lunchbucket, it probably is hard to get good southern soul food up there. i guess in the direction we are going you could say deer food too. oh yeah my cornmeal comes from a home cornmeal grinder. my grand mother makes mean bread. ever had cracklin bread?

RE: deer greens?
No, but I'm willing to learn!!! tehehehehe

RE: deer greens?
Betcha can't get sweet iced tea either! Yankee's idea of iced tea: a pot of hot tea and a glass of ice!! Actually had that served as 'iced tea' in a restaurant in the North a couple years ago. Greens, purple hull peas, cornbread and iced tea....not that's a meal fit for a king...with or without the fried chicken.

RE: deer greens?
AMEN smalltown.my wife (from colorado) had the hardest time getting used to sweet tea. she thinks tea with lemon and a little suger is it . i have to go my grandmothers to get tea or good southern food for that matter.i can cook it but she doesnt have the hang of it after 14 years of bliss. we couldnt keep deer out of our purple hull pea patch. the only problem with them is there gone by hunting season but the wood goats eat good.

SOARKREBLEL
Where are you from in South Ark.? I hunt in and around Emmerson and Magnolia. We had a patch of turnips, deer never set foot in it. All I ever heard about turnips is that if you had deer you wouldn't have turnips. Not in this case. Plenty of deer, plenty of turnips. |
RE: deer greens?
STONE COLD, don't tell any one that im from camden ar. ha ha . sometimes the deer dont find them ,that aint so bad then you get to eat them. i have some good friends that hunt in emerson, they have taken some real good bucks down there. one this year may go over 160 .
